Appraisal Institute Mission and Diversity Statement
Mission Statement: Our mission is to empower valuation professionals through community, credentialing, education, body of knowledge and ethical standards.
Diversity Statement: The Appraisal Institute empowers individuals and nurtures an environment that inspires and encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The South Carolina Chapter of the Appraisal Institute is active in providing education opportunities in the form of full and half day seminars (live virtual and in-person) to help meet real estate appraiser continuing education requirements. We sponsor quarterly chapter meetings and receptions that follow a half day continuing education seminar. The meetings and educational opportunities are a great way to meet and network with appraisers active in the South Carolina market area.
The Appraisal Institute is a global professional association of real estate appraisers, with nearly 17,000 professionals in almost 50 countries throughout the world. Its mission is to advance professionalism and ethics, global standards, methodologies, and practices through the professional development of property economics worldwide.
Organized in 1932, the Appraisal Institute advocates equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in the appraisal profession and conducts its activities in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. Individuals of the Appraisal Institute benefit from an array of professional education and advocacy programs, and may hold the prestigious MAI, SRPA, SRA, AI-GRS, and AI-RRS designations.
Considering a Career in Real Estate?
Real estate is a major – and pivotal – facet of our economy. Whenever real estate is sold, mortgaged, taxed, insured or developed, an appraisal is an essential component of any transaction. Without a knowledgeable and trustworthy appraisal, a real estate transaction will fall apart at the seams. Real estate appraisers are problem solvers. Just like putting together a puzzle, they arrange hundreds of facts, statistics, market data and property characteristics to show their clients – and other related parties such as banks and mortgage companies – what the picture looks like. In essence, the real estate appraiser puts a dollar value to every piece in the puzzle and can sum up what it’s all worth when the picture is complete.
Real estate appraisal is a unique career choice that can fit into anyone’s lifestyle, pace, and expectations. One can let his or her location and market dictate the types of real estate property to appraise, such as a single-family homes, commercial properties, shopping malls and farms, or one can explore the country and accept specialized appraisal assignments in different states, or even countries.
With thousands of properties exchanging hands each year, the opportunities for growth and diversity are endless. Everyone from Wall Street financiers to the neighbor next door needs to know the value of their property, ensuring that the appraisal industry is always open for business.
